Money, Money, Money! Whoever said buying a brand would be easy obviously doesn’t know what they are talking about. Of course, I doubt anyone has ever said that, but that’s what it seems like. Ford and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. have been in talks over Volvo for about an eternity and the crap keeps getting deeper as the boots keep getting taller. Volvo union officials have said that Geely would need about $1.4 billion USD after the purchase price of $2 billion USD to substantiate the purchase of the brand.
The figure would be “an absolute minimum” for financing car development, marketing, production and distribution in the next year, and the money needed could be double that amount, Glenn Magnusson, head of the managers’ union at Gothenburg, Sweden-based Volvo, said in an interview.
Four unions said Feb. 5 that they would accept Geely as the new owner of Volvo as long as the Chinese manufacturer proves it can fund operations.
You have to check out this video! Mark Berry with Hi Octane Racing was out testing the Advan/HiOctane Racing Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R on the Eastern Creek International Raceway in preparation for the World Time Attack Challenge. This challenge, the first ever of its kind, will test the speed of not only Australia’s World Time Attack teams, but also teams from the U.S. and Japan. The race will be held at the Eastern Creek International Raceway on Friday, May 21, 2010 and Saturday, May 22, 2010.
A representative from SuperLap caught up with Mark Berry and when asked if he was not chasing speed due to the corners on the tracks, Mark Berry replied,
“We’re chasing speed everywhere. It’s ALL about speed, we’ll be up against the top teams in the WORLD, these guys are incredibly fast and we can’t afford to lose a second anywhere.”
That’s the kind of response we here at TopSpeed like to hear.
What do you obtain when you combine the first model of the DS line with the designer who revolutionized the world? The Answer is the special edition Citroen DS3 Yves Saint Laurent.
The main difference between a standard DS3 and the Yves Saint Laurent Special Edition is the new red exterior color combined with the black roof with the Yves Saint Laurent logo.
BMW tuner Van Harten Performance from Holand recently got its hands on a brand new BMW S1000RR superbike and, apart from turning it into what appears to be a carbon fiber edition, it can also brag about being the first to take the S1000RR beyond the 200bhp barrier. And I’m not so sure you’ll believe us when saying they managed to squeeze 210bhp out of German inline-four by only adding a four-in-one Akrapovic exhaust system. But it is the truth and it really shows this bike’s tuning potential.
Rizla Suzuki has today released the first pics of the 2010 GSV-R, the 800cc MotoGP racing bike that will be ridden by Loris Capirossi and Alvaro Bautista in the upcoming season. The bike will again distinguish thanks to the dominating Blue with RIZLA written on each side.
Althought the bike doesn’t look much different from the 2009 model, the team claims their fourth generation model is better from all points of view: acceleration, aerodynamics, chassis and electronics. Still the inline-four copes with engine restrictions implemented into this year’s championship, meaning Suzuki will only supply 6 engines for all 18 races.
While it is nice seeing that reliability is also taken into concern, what happened to “the best race engine is the one that ceases right after passing the finish line”?
While GM is still waiting with the official debut of the Camaro Convertible, spy shots reveal more and more about the car. A very lucky guy caught the car testing and at a stop light he also get the confirmation that the car will go on sale next April.
The Convertible version will be offered in the same three trims as the coupe version: LS, LT and SS. The LS and LT models will be offered with an advanced, 3.6 liter direct-injected V-6 engine with variable valve timing and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions while the SS model will come with a 6.2L V8 – including fuel-saving Active Fuel Management on automatic-equipped combination – and a six-speed manual transmission.
Bengt Gunnarson, the owner of MC-Varuhus (Motorcycle Warehouse) delership in Stockholm has just unveiled two icons for the motorcycle industry, a Honda NR750 and RC30, which he kept intact in the basement for around two decades.
One from 1989 and the other from 1992, the bikes are both part of limited runs that Honda offered as technological showpieces (NR750) and homologated race versions built by HRC for World Superbike (RC30).
Unboxing the two bikes now is like going back in time and experiencing that same thrill fueled by the fact you’re getting your hands on the best there is out there. Although Honda evolved A LOT since these bikes were produced, the two look just marvelous and they will be displayed in the dealership’s showroom for the posterity. It is totally worth seeing the video after the break.
There’s nothing like a trip to memory lane that brings back nostalgic moments from the past.
For Walter Röhrl, a man many regard as the finest rally car driver in history, there may be such a thing as too many memory lanes to choose from. So Autocar did him a great service by picking one particular event his past: the 1984 Rally Monte Carlo.
If you were old enough to have seen it, you’ll probably remember Röhrl winning that race on-board an Audi Quattro. What Autocar then decided to do was bring Röhrl back to his scene of conquest 26 years later on with the same race car – the A2 Quattro – and in the same scenic leg of the Rally Monte Carlo – the Col de Turini.
Check out how Röhrl fared this time around and watch first-hand exactly why this man was bestowed the title of Rally Driver of the Century in Italy and
Rally Driver of the Millennium in France.
The Ducati 848 superbike simply carries on as a 2010 model year, but manages to offer a different kind of middleweight rush. It is all about the Italian way of building a racing bike with lights and mirrors, so that can never pass without leaving quite a big impression in the always opened heart of a passionate sports motorcycle rider.
After we have seen the SLS AMG coupe version, Mercedes is also preparing for us a roadster version. And while the final car will not be revealed until Paris Auto Show, the first details on the car have been revealed by the European patent office.
And will the coupe version is powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 571 hp and up to 650 Nm of torque, it is rumored that the roadster version will use the new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
